(Rau Animal Hospital as it is today)
In an effort to assure that we maintain the highest standards in veterinary care, Rau Animal Hospital became an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) in 1970. The hospital had to pass comprehensive inspections of our facilities, equipment, veterinary practices, and management. To maintain this status, the hospital must continue to meet rigid standards and be regularly evaluated by trained AAHA staff. More information can be found on the page "AAHA Member".
We also have memberships in the following professional organizations:
- Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians (AVDT) - Our OR Supervisor, Vickie Byard, is President-Elect of this organization.
- American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS)
- American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
- North American Veterinary Technician Association (NAVTA)
- Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA)
- Veterinary Hospital Manager's Association (VHMA)
- Veterinary Information Network (VIN)
- Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (SVBT)
Rau Animal Hospital was founded by Dr. Benjamin Rau in the early twentieth century. It was purchased by Dr. Stuart A. Fox in the 1960's. Dr. Mark Fox, Dr. Stuart Fox's son, joined the staff in 1981, and in 1986 he purchased the practice from his father. Dr. Mark Fox has served as director and staff veterinarian ever since. Rau underwent a major renovation in 1997, resulting in the current status of the building.
